[kom-pohst] comprises a work in three parts, born out of a process of the decomposition and recomposition of an archive of collected artefacts (be they objects, materials, sites, memories and traces), formed into a collection of sonic reflections.
The notion of compost conjures both a material form and a living process, the essential function of which is transformation, the breaking down or decaying process of organic matter, that is vital to all living systems.
[kom-pohst] has grown from the mass of sonic material gathered by sixteen artists involvement in Active Crossover: Mooste, a collective residency held during April-May 2015. The three composers have charted connections between the various singular activities, intersected the common threads, and assembled them as a nebulous web of sonic interactions and experiences.
The composting of these artefacts embraces a metaphorical transformation of debris, giving a voice to a unique collective archive, of which itself is an outgrowth of a living system of interwoven artistic activity. The pieces combine to present a set of sonic interpretations from the process of investigation and collaboration, of sharing experience and materials.
